Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has said playing Maui in Disney's “Moana” meant a lot to him, as it was a special way for him to represent his culture. However, Johnson just gave fans another inside scoop on why his character was so close to his heart...he was based on his grandfather!
A fan tweeted a comparison photo of the character Maui with Johnson's real grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, and the resemblance is uncanny! In fact, Maivia was a professional wrestler and did brief acting too!
