"The New New Thing is a notion that is poised to be taken seriously in the marketplace." and I thrive on guessing what that is and being right about it. Right now experts agree its:
The color green.
Babies, but more so: Pregnancy.
Tea, instead of coffee.
Juicing. Fresh pressed juice.
Flats.
Crocs (again).
Homemade breads, pretzles and the like.
Baking "kits". And, easy-to-make at home meals.
SUV's.
That's what I have for now. But there are other trends that are "recent", not new, and are agressively hanging on. I've noticed that everyone and their mother has become a "motivational speaker" or "life coach" and most anybody who has ever been on TV has written a book about parenting, or Anthony Robbins style seld-help, or just their comedic obsercations about life.
TOMS have jumped the shark. (So have Uggs. That is done done.) Although I'd still buy the new TOMS sunglasses. For some reason that is different. A progressive decision to "shop-forward". You are still helping people.
Over It: High-priced burger joints that sell nothing, really, but The Burger. Those joints have exploded. They've been in trendy locals here in LA for a while.. but I think it's just beginning to infiltrate some outer-commnities as a "new thing". Enjoy. I'll admit they are tasty. It'll wear off.
So these trends have come, and some have gone, but reading about how/why/what's next, thrills me. So I share a short reading list that has been on my book shelf for years, with dog-eared pages, post-its & highlighter marks as I studied them for funsies.
