Breakfast, the most important meal of the day....right?! You could argue that the breakfast at Nickel Diner is the best between their breakfast, lunch and dinner. With a menu of items including homemade pop tarts, vegan ranchero and a dutch baby pancake, there is something for everyone.
Polenta with maple syrup choice of bacon, chicken apple sausage or ham
I cruised on in with family and just like most diners, this throwback is perfect for all ages. Around the horn we ordered the Hangover Helper, Gio's Chilaquiles, Polenta with maple syrup choice of bacon, chicken apple sausage or ham, chicken pozole, and a car bomb donut.

If pancakes are your thing, make sure to get there before noon. They stop serving their flapjack meals then.
If there is a wait, make sure your party sitcks together otherwise you'll be bumped.
Try one of their homemade donuts!
What is a filler food? It is a food that is mostly water content, that makes you feel full & keep you full. Check out this list of filler foods to help you east less but feel more full.
1. Cucumbers- 90% water
It’s no surprise that cucumbers have a moisture content of 90 percent. What you may not know is that they are a source of protein, calcium and iron, and they contain vitamins C and A, fiber and beta carotene.
2. Celery- Only 16 Calories!
The crunchy vegetable’s leading claim to fame is the presence of active compounds called phthalides, which help relax muscles around the arteries and allow blood vessels to dilate, eventually lowering blood pressure.
3. Lettuce- 95% water
ceberg and other types of lettuce are about 95 percent water and practically calorie-free, making them a great fill-you-up food.
4. Hearts of Palm- Great source of protein!
These flavorful stalks contain protein, vitamin A, folic acid and almost no fat. A half cup has 115 calories. Hearts of palm earn their place on your plate because they’re a good source of potassium, which is important for heart and nerve cell function and blood pressure regulation.
5. Radishes- Only 24 calories!
A cup of these spicy bulbs has a mere 24 calories and contains potassium and vitamin C. Most importantly, radishes are moisture- and fiber-rich. Fiber is key for keeping our digestive tract healthy and ferrying the bad cholesterol (LDL) out of our system.

Spring has finally sprung and there’s nothing more fabulous than sippin’ on the perfect seasonal wine while showing off your freshly painted nails. Instead of matching the blooming floral colors outside choose a color that will imitate the wine in your glass (Wine Not)?! This week you’ll find me rockin’ a Pinot Noir shade. It perfectly compliments the warm sunshine and light breeze of a SoCal Spring, while staying true to the characteristics of a true Pinot. Check out some of my favorite Pinot Noir nail colors below (think pale red berries)!
I put my dining fate in the hands of our followers last night and asked which ingredients I should add to my shrimp dish. The unanimous vote was cilantro and lime, so here's what I came up with! Here’s a helpful tip too; grab the “Fresh Guacamole Kit” in the produce section and you’ll have a bunch of the ingredients in one box!

What you do:
Over the weekend a friend of mine was telling me about Trader Joe's organic coconut oil and all the things she has noticed since she started cooking with it...so of course I had to try! They even have non fat coconut oil cooking spray, you can also get it in liquid or solid form.
This past week I have made pancakes, won tons, pot stickers, asparagus, zuccini and sausage with coconut oil and it was amazing. You would THINK your food would taste all coconuty-beachy....NOPE. Not only did my food taste amazingly fresh, I barely had to use any oil to cook my food, it wasn't greasy at all!
Not only is this oil good for cooking with, you can use it on your skin too! Here are some good facts about coconut oil:
