Why Food Expiration Dates Aren’t That Strict

Ever wonder if the milk in your refrigerator is really bad?

According to United States Department of Agriculture food expiration dates pertain to food quality, not food safety. Things to keep in mind before cleaning out your refrigerator are the “Best if used by” date, which means that its best to use the product before the date as it will be at peak quality, after the date the quality declines.

“Use by” is used on perishable items, you can eat the item after the date but don’t wait too long. “Sell By” is for retailers to let them know when to remove an item off the shelf.

Are you strict on expiration dates?
